"RED WATER" IRON FILTER
(undissolved iron that causes the water to be reddish from the tap)
This filter combines Birm and Filter-Ag to remove undissolved (ferric) iron
and other suspended matter down to 20 to 40 micron range.
Backwashing cleans the media. If using a water softener, place this filter ahead of it to
protect it from fouling (softeners remove only ferrous (clear water iron). Backwashing cleans
the media. It can remove ferrous iron if dissolved oxygen content is at least 15%
of iron content.

IRON AND HYDROGEN SULFIDE FILTER - KDF-85
KDF-85, a media manufactured by KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc.,
is a special copper/zinc alloy that
effectively removes iron (ferrous and ferric) and hydrogen sulfide by oxidation and
electrolysis. Iron causes reddish stains on fixtures. Hydrogen
sulfide gives off "rotten egg" odor. Backwashing cleans
the media. Iron and hydrogen sulfide limit - 5 ppm total (higher with air injection). Must have a TDS (total dissolved solids) of
over 150 ppm, and a pH between 6.5 and 8.5. Must also have at least 50 psi and
10 gallons per minute flow available for proper backwash. Click here

IRON AND HYDROGEN SULFIDE FILTER - MANGANESE GREENSAND
Manganese Greensand filters remove ferrous and ferric iron, manganese and hydrogen
sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration. Backwashing and regeneration
with potassium permanganate solution restores the media bed. It can remove up to 15 ppm
of iron, and 5 ppm hydrogen sulfide. It can operate in a pH range of 6.2 to 8.8,
and does not have a TDS requirement. Must also have at least 50 psi and 10
gallons per minute flow available for proper backwash. The solution tank is 10" in diameter by
13" tall.

IRON BACTERIA - This type of iron is where bacteria feeds on iron and
causes a slime to form. If you have an orange slime inside your toilet tank, you

TASTE AND ODOR REMOVAL FILTER - ACTIVATED CARBON
Activated carbon is widely used to efficiently
remove bad tastes and odor from well water (see above for "rotten egg" odors).
It can also be used to remove chlorine from chlorine-feed systems and radon (up
to 10,000 pCi/L).

ACIDIC WATER / BLUE-GREEN STAINS
ACID NEUTRALIZING FILTER - CALCITE
Acidic water can leach copper from pipes and
cause greenish-blue stains on fixtures. It can cause many other
corrosion problems, as well. When acid pH water (below 7.0) is
passed through the filter, calcium carbonate (Calcite) is slowly dissolved
into the water, increasing the pH to a neutral level. Backwashing
cleans the bed and prevents compaction. Includes a port on the tank
to inspect and add media.
